Youth Activity Area/Skate Park Future Planning

Thursday, September 22, 2011

As many of you will already be aware, the City of Armadale's much anticipated Youth Activity Area/Skate Park will be opening to the public later this year. In anticipation of the opening, the City of Armadale are looking to engage members of the public, in particular youth, to identify a group of motivated and participative locals to help create an exciting future for this space, whilst representing the interests of the general community.

The idea is for this committee to take the initiative in developing ideas and ownership of the overall space and help in various ways to manage the area, including:

  • Planning a strategy to develop an interesting and exciting name for the area
  • Provide support in planning ideas for the launch
  • Developing an ongoing plan detailing how the space can be utilised (e.g. skate competitions, workshops activities, use of the multimedia centre)
  • In general taking charge of the space and ensuring that it is a community driven area taking into account the wants and needs of both young people in Armadale as well as the wider community.

The target group will be young people in the age ranges of 12 – 20 years, from mixed gender and diverse cultural and social backgrounds that can commit to attending committee meetings at least once a month. Parents of the younger committee members will be invited to participate in the committee. The number of young members to make up the final committee will be ten, with any additional interested parties forming a wider emailing list to be engaged on an ad hoc basis. Please refer to the attached flyer.
